          • Selena Gomez’s new album, Rare, is finally out. Yay!
          • On the album, Selena has quite a few songs that may address her relationship with her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber.

The wait for new Selena Gomez music is officially over, y’all. After Sel released two new singles back in October, Selenators have been waiting with bated breath for her to drop her highly anticipated album, Rare. Mind you, her last album, Revival—aka the record that gave us the gifts of “Good for You” and “Hands to Myself”—came out almost five (5) whole years ago. We were long past due!

So what did Selena do? She first threw us all a damn bone and gave us “Lose You to Love Me” and “Look at Her Now.” Both songs were about her infamous on-and-off-again relationship with Justin Bieber. But lucky for us, Selena threw some more hidden gems about Justin into the record that definitely allude to her relationship even more, if you can believe. Since you’re thirsting, let’s discuss!

Let’s start off with the title track, “Rare.” First of all, this track is suuuch a bop. But underneath the poppy production, Selena’s talking about a relationship where she feels undervalued by her partner, which just might allude to her feelings from when she was with Justin.

Selena sings, “Saw us getting older / Burning toast in the toaster / My ambitions were too high / Waiting up for you upstairs / Why you act like I’m not there?” which suggests that she wanted something long term and saw a future with this man. Considering that Selena and Justin were on and off for a decade, there’s a high probability she saw a future with him.

The lyrics, for you to dissect for yourself:

“If I give you every piece of me, I know that you could drop it / Give you the chance, I know that you could take advantage, but you caught it / If I open up my heart to you, I know that you could lock it / Throw away the key, and keep it there forever in your pocket / If I give the opportunity to you, then would you blow it? / If I was the greatest thing to happen to you, would you know it? / If my love was like a flower, would you plant it? Would you grow it? / I’ma give you all my body, are you strong enough to hold it?
If I show you all my demons, and we dive into the deep end / Would we crash and burn like every time before? / I would tell you all my secrets, wrap your arms around my weakness / If the only other option’s letting go / I’ll stay vulnerable, yeah.”

In “People You Know,” Selena talks about how a relationship—or friendship, you never know!—has changed. I mean, she literally sings, “We used to be close, but people can go / From people you know to people you don’t / And what hurts the most is people can go / From people you know to people you don’t.” Now ain’t that some tea!

Justin and Selena spent a large chunk of the past decade together, but now that Selena has put their history behind her, she probably doesn’t even know who the “new version” of Justin is.

Back in September, an Us Weekly source revealed that Selena is completely okay with not having Justin in her life anymore and is better off without him in the long run. “Selena knows she’s better off without Justin and that it’s the healthiest decision for her,” the source said. “She is open to dating, but right now, she is solely focused on herself and enjoying life to the best of her ability and getting back to being the Selena that she and all of her close ones knew prior to dating Justin.”

And last, let’s turn our attention toward “Cut You Off.” First of all, I did not know Selena had a little queen of soul hiding in her, but this track seriously proved me wrong and called me dumb for thinking otherwise. Selena enlisted songwriter Liza Owens to help create this empowering track, which, according to Liza, is about letting go of “an asshole boy who shall not be named.” Yes, really!

Rare album trailer. “@ChloeAngelides & @DPramz and I wrote a song called ‘Cut You Off’ about an asshole boy who shall not be named and our super-empowering baby is finally coming out ❤️❤️❤️❤️.”

So...is it about Justin? Well, kinda. Selena and Justin reportedly don’t talk anymore now that he’s married to Hailey Baldwin, so technically, she did cut him off. Bieber fans immediately bought that “Cut You Off” is about Justin and proceeded to drag both Selena and Liza for it online.

A fan of Selena’s jumped in to defend them though, commenting on Instagram, “This writer wrote about her life and it got pitched and sold to Selena. You on here and on Twitter lying and hating on Selena. And you never once had an issue with Justin writing albums about her.” And Liza replied and wrote, “👏👏👏 thank you,” so there you go.

But in case you wanna hear the song for yourself and read more into the lyrics, check it out below:

            Verse 1
Pull up to the mirror, starin’ at my face
Gotta drop, drop all the extra weight
I’ve been carrying for 1,460 days
Gotta, gotta, gotta clean my slate

            Pre-Chorus

And I might as well just tell you while I’m drunk, yeah
The truth is that I think I’ve had enough
            Professionally messin’ with my trust
How could I confuse that shit for love?

            Chorus

So I gotta get you-u-u-u-u out my head now
            I just cut you off
            You-u-u-u-u out my head now
            I just cut you off
            When I’m without you-u-u-u-u, u-u-u-u-u
I don’t overthink it, I just carry on
Get you-u-u-u-u out my head now
            I just cut you off

            Verse 2

I imagine all the endless places I could know
If I drop, drop and I let you go
All the possibilities I got from head to toe
Yeah, they’d, yeah, they’d, yeah, they’d start to show

            Pre-Chorus

And I might as well just tell you while I’m drunk, yeah
The truth is that I think I’ve had enough (had enough)
Emotionally messin’ with my health (ha)
How could I confuse that shit for love?

            Chorus

So I gotta get you-u-u-u-u out my head now
            I just cut you off
            You-u-u-u-u out my head now
            I just cut you off
            When I’m without you-u-u-u-u, u-u-u-u-u
I don’t overthink it, I just carry on
Get you-u-u-u-u out my head now
            I just (I just), I just

            [Guitar solo]

            Bridge

You-u-u-u-u out my head now (head now)
            I just—when I’m without
You-u-u-u-u out my head now (head now)

            Chorus

So I gotta get you-u-u-u-u out my head now
I just (I just) cut you off (yeah, I cut you off)
            You-u-u-u-u out my head now
            I just cut you off
            When I’m without you-u-u-u-u, u-u-u-u-u
I don’t overthink it, I just carry on
Get you-u-u-u-u out my head now
            I just, I just (yeah)
